Lorne. Dine In Or Take Away.

I’ve just spent 1 week in Lorne and didn’t realise that Lorne has over 28 places to wine and dine. I was in heaven. From fine dining to great pub’s, cafe’s and restaurants buzzing with activity and the air filled with fantastic aromas of food cooking. I have come to the conclusion that this haven, a very comfortable 2 hour drive from Melbourne, is a fantastic destination even if you only have a weekend to get away. Where did I dine?

The Lorne Hotel

Check out their website. Friendly staff. Great food. The seafood platter is enough for 3 people and the parma or fish & chips really hits the spot! What’s more, kids are more than welcome. Child friendly with a massive kids playroom, jumping castle and theatre. At 5.30pm every day they hold a kids fun zone with clowns, DJ’s, games and dancing on the outdoor decking. Kids had a ball. Nice to see.

Mexican Republic Lorne

I love Mexican food and this place was as good as anywhere I’ve eaten in Melbourne or Sydney. The menu has typical Mexican offerings but the freshness, flavours and presentation in second to none! The venue is really cool and the service is fantastic. We ordered a jug of sangria. Perfect!

Lorne Beach Pavilion

After a morning walk or run, pop into the Pavilion for a coffee and grab a seat facing the ocean. Located directly on the beach, this place serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Sit outside under an umbrella or if it’s cold, there is a nice indoor space to sit and watch the waves roll in. Check out their website for more details and to see their menu.

I had dinner here twice. It’s a really cool noodle bar. The queue to take orders starts around 5pm so be prepared to line up. It moves extremely fast. You’ll have your food in no time at all. Watch the chef’s do their thing. Fresh, hot and substantial.

Diners Verdict: I can’t speak highly enough about this place. The locals, council and business owners have really worked hard to make Lorne a great family destination. They have succeeded.  There’s plenty of dining options for everyone to enjoy. For this time of year, the prices aren’t that bad either.

  1. Rob: These are all such real rays of epicurean sunshine over here in the UK winter gloom and are being duly noted for when eating and drinking our way around Victoria later this year. Ta ever so ! PL-T x

  2. A vibrant well sourced meal is often spoken about in that restaurant world of those global sites like re….well we know who they are. Looking to boost their personal talent as a critic. Chat to locals and one gets closer to where a good meal may be had. Importantly so in the areas relying on summer trade. This place Robbo is the same all year round. I am so glad you gave it some space.FRESH is best and the Asians do it so well. All the best
